Jacquie Horvath
“It’s wonderful to have it all right here.”
Jackie Horvath and her husband, Alexander, lived in Potomac, Maryland for many years and enjoyed traveling the world together. However, Alexander developed dementia, which made it a challenge to find a living arrangement that suited both of their needs.
When Jackie heard about Fox Hill, she purchased a two-bedroom condominium before the community was even built. She moved to Fox Hill in 2008, and Alexander lived in the Memory Care unit on-site. “It was probably the best decision I made in my whole life,” she says. “This was a wonderful arrangement; I could go see him whenever I wanted.”
Jackie describes the care Alexander received in Memory Care as “top-notch. “I baked cookies a couple of times a month for the staff as a way of thanking them,” she says.
A Sense of Community
Jackie enjoys welcoming new owners by inviting them to join her and her friends for dinner or activities. “We all try to make each other feel at home. There’s a sense of community. It’s almost like living in a small town,” she explains. “The nicest thing about Fox Hill is that everybody cares about everybody else. And I hear that from all of the new people moving in. They say, ‘I have just never met so many kind, nice people’.”
Today, Jackie leads a very active life at Fox Hill. She serves on the Activities Committee and enjoys planning parties and group dinner outings. She also plays bridge and mah-jong regularly and attends lectures, concerts and films.
World-Class Amenities
Thanks to water aerobics and balance training classes at Fox Hill’s fitness center, Jackie says, “I feel fit and good. I feel even better than I did before!” Massages at Sanctuary Spa and Salon have helped to relieve her arthritis, and she enjoys pedicures and having her hair done without having to leave the comfort of home. “It’s wonderful to have it all right here.”
Jackie has a very close family with four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She made the decision to move to Fox Hill on her own, and she says her children are thrilled with her choice. “I can’t even say how ecstatic all of them are!” she says. “I love living here. It’s the happiest I’ve been in a long time.”
